Zodia Custody Opens Interchange to Maple, Letting Institutions Borrow On-Chain With Collateral Held in Custody

September 18, 2026 By Crypto Reporter PR

Zodia Custody, the institution-first digital assets platform, announced that Maple has joined Interchange, its institutional settlement network. Institutions can now access Maple’s on-chain credit markets while their collateral stays in their own segregated Zodia Custody wallet for the life of the loan.

Institutions differ in how they are required to hold assets, and for those operating under mandates that keep holdings with a trusted custodian, that requirement has shaped which financing markets are open to them. Maple’s presence on Interchange gives those firms a route into on-chain credit that works within their existing custody arrangements.

Under this arrangement, custody and credit are separated – Maple extends the credit and Zodia Custody continues to hold the assets. Pledged collateral sits in a dedicated wallet inside the client’s segregated Zodia Custody environment, and Maple’s rights over it extend only to enforcing its security interest should the client default or trigger another pre-agreed event. Until then the assets stay where they started, and the client borrows against them without transferring anything to the lender. Bitcoin, wrapped Bitcoin, Ether and Solana are accepted as collateral at launch. It is the structural principle that made off-venue settlement viable for trading, and is now being applied to borrowing.

Interchange was built by Zodia Custody, so institutions could deploy assets across venues without removing them from custody until the point of settlement, and that separation now extends to financing. Clients retain full visibility of their holdings, with all their funds remaining in custody and collateral isolated from the lender’s balance sheet. Institutions can raise financing against digital asset positions without selling them, keeping market exposure and any upside while the loan is outstanding.

Anoosh Arevshatian, Chief Product Officer at Zodia Custody, said: “Zodia Custody’s role is to hold client assets to an institutional standard and then make them useful without lowering it. Institutions can raise liquidity against assets they already hold, keep those assets in segregated custody with the controls and reporting their auditors expect, and access a credit market that was previously closed to them on those terms. Bringing Maple onto the network is a signal that on-chain credit is being built to terms that institutional risk teams can sign off on, and that is where we are focused on taking clients next.”

Sid Powell, CEO and Co-Founder of Maple, added: “Institutional borrowers want access to on-chain credit without changing how their assets are held. With Interchange, Maple is making its credit markets available to institutions whose collateral stays with their own custodian for the whole term of the loan.”

Maple is available to Interchange clients as a financing counterparty, extending Zodia Custody’s network that already spans trading, brokerage and settlement venues across major digital asset classes through a single integration.
