San Diego Defenders / Forfeiture Law Firm Responds to Planned Additional BTC-e Notice

September 17, 2026 By GlobeNewswire

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 17, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- San Diego Defenders / Forfeiture Law Firm, which represents clients affected by the federal BTC-e forfeiture proceedings, is alerting former BTC-e users to an important development that may bring the case to the attention of thousands of individuals who previously may not have received a direct notice.

In a recent order, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia addressed the government’s plan to conduct an additional round of direct notices in the BTC-e case.

According to the Court’s document, the government intends to send emails to approximately 300,000 addresses associated with BTC-e accounts that had a positive balance when the government seized BTC-e’s servers in 2017. The development is significant because the additional notice could alert former BTC-e account holders who were not previously aware of the federal forfeiture proceeding. The Court has also granted motions by certain claimants seeking permission to file after the original deadline, underscoring the importance of understanding the procedures related to this matter.

“This additional notice could reach a very large number of former BTC-e users who may have been unaware that their interests could be affected by this proceeding,” said Dan Smith, lead attorney at San Diego Defenders / Forfeiture Law Firm. “Former account holders should preserve their records and pay close attention to any communication they receive concerning BTC-e,” he added.

Former BTC-e users who believe they may have held assets on the exchange should consider obtaining legal advice regarding their potential rights, applicable deadlines and the documentation needed to support a claim.
