Essential Tips to Secure Your Cryptocurrency Wallet

July 14, 2023 By Crypto Reporter PR

When using a cryptocurrency wallet, whether it’s a non-custodial or custodial solution, it is essential to prioritize security. This includes implementing best practices and utilizing reliable wallet solutions. There are reputable wallets that are developed based on trust wallet as a service SDK. This allows you to create a very secure experience. It combines both ease of use and a secure storage method. This SDK provides developers with the tools and resources to create secure wallet services, enhancing the overall safety of users’ digital assets.

Tips for Secure Wallet Usage:

Avoid using wallets in your regular web browser:

Numerous vulnerabilities are revealed when viewing websites through browsers. Getting infected with a virus that steals credentials poses a very significant danger. The infection doesn’t show any signs of life, but when you input your wallet’s password, a hacker may access it. Link your web-based wallet to another browser that you don’t often use if it is one of those.

Strength and uniqueness – two criteria when choosing a password:

You may use passwords like “12345qwerty”, but they may be immediately cracked. But “!HgarTfg#20.23cRYpto” is a substantially more secure password. All these symbols must be included in the password:

  • capital letters;
  • lowercase letters;
  • numbers;
  • special characters.

Using a password generator can assist you in creating a secure choice. Also keep in mind that you cannot use the same password across various applications, accounts, or wallets. Hackers can access all of your accounts by hacking them.

Remember to keep your secret seed phrase in a safe place:

The secret or seed phrase is like a master key for your wallet. It consists of 12 or 24 random words generated during the wallet’s creation and remains unchanged. Around 20% of all bitcoins (approximately 18.5 million BTC) are permanently lost because owners forget their passwords and seed phrases. To safeguard your seed phrase, it’s advisable to write it down in multiple secure locations, preferably in separate parts. Avoid storing the complete phrase on social media, smartphones, and similar platforms.

Avoid connecting your wallet to unknown websites:

With the distribution of tokens, the acquisition of NFT, or high-percentage staking, you run the risk of losing all of your assets on fraudulent websites. Verify the website’s url if you are unfamiliar with it, like on CoinMarketCap or CoinGecko. Add a suspect address to the blacklist right away and make a complaint with the website where the suspicious offer was received.

In March 2022, one of the prominent phishing attacks took place. A lengthy letter purportedly from the MetaMask cryptocurrency wallet team was sent to users. The mail asked that you authenticate your wallet and input your seed phrase, and it warned that your account will be banned if you disregarded the rules. No information was available on the quantity of stolen or the number of impacted clients.

Enable two-factor authentication (2FA):

2FA (two-factor authentication) is allowing access to a service through the correct code from another application. The code is regenerated each time it is needed to enter. Perhaps the most famous 2FA app is Google Authenticator.

Conclusion

Safeguarding your cryptocurrency wallet is of utmost importance in the face of increasing hacking attempts and security breaches. By following these simple yet crucial tips, such as using separate browsers, strong passwords, secure seed phrase storage, avoiding unknown websites, and enabling 2FA, you can significantly enhance the security of your digital assets. Remember, prioritizing security and adopting best practices are fundamental for a safe and secure cryptocurrency wallet experience.
