AMC to accept bitcoin for movie tickets by the end of 2021

August 12, 2021 By Crypto Reporter

AMC Entertainment Holdings, which runs the largest movie theater chain in the US, will begin accepting bitcoin payments for tickets and concessions by the end of the year, the company’s CEO, Adam Aron, said on a second-quarter earnings call Monday.

AMC CEO Adam Aron said the decision came after his position on the board of Centricus Acquisition Corp., which is in the process of buying a startup specializing in blockchain technology, compelled him to study cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology over the past six months.

“This increased knowledge has given me the confidence to tell you all today that AMC is hereby formally announcing on this call that by year’s end we will have the information technology systems in place to accept bitcoin,” Aron said during the call.

In addition to committing to crypto payments, Aron said AMC is currently working on Apple Pay and Google Pay options as well for its US theaters. Those, too, should be introduced by the end of the year, the AMC chief said.
