MoonPay, the global financial technology company powering the movement of value across fiat and digital assets, announced that PayBox is now live in Grok, expanding access to its payment vault built for AI.
PayBox connects Grok to a user’s self-custodial wallets, cards, and credentials, enabling transactions across the open internet within limits the user defines. Users can describe what they want in natural language:
- “Onramp $100 into PYUSD”
- “Swap $100 of PYUSD to SOL”
- “Bridge funds to Robinhood Chain”
- “Earn on my USDC using Kamino”
- “Book my flight”
- “Book a dinner reservation tonight”
Grok prepares the transaction. The user approves it with a passkey. The money moves.
PayBox first launched in July with support for Claude and ChatGPT. Its expansion to Grok brings user-controlled payments to another major AI platform as conversational assistants evolve from software that responds into software that can act.

With PayBox, Grok users can connect with platforms to trade tokens, bridge assets, interact with decentralized finance, and make payments across the open internet. Through x402, the open standard for agent-initiated payments, AI can also pay for services built to accept them, including integrations for restaurant reservations, travel bookings, and shopping across major online retailers.
PayBox supports Solana and EVM-compatible chains including Ethereum, Hyperliquid, Tempo, Base, Robinhood Chain, Arbitrum, and Polygon, with additional networks and capabilities coming.
Built for Agentic Payments
PayBox holds the payment methods an AI agent needs. Cards are stored so an agent can use them without accessing the underlying card details. Wallet keys are protected through threshold cryptography, or MPC, and secure enclaves, or TEEs. No single party, including MoonPay or the AI agent, can access the complete private key or sign transactions independently.
The underlying technology leverages the key management infrastructure developed by Sodot, which MoonPay acquired in 2026. That infrastructure secures more than $50 billion in assets and over 10 million wallets for leading crypto companies and now powers every PayBox vault.
Card payments run through Visa’s agentic commerce protocol, enabling PayBox to transact without seeing or storing the raw card number. Passkey approvals are scoped to individual actions and expire after use, preventing an authorization from being replayed or expanded into broader access.
Together, these safeguards give users one permission layer across crypto, stablecoins, and traditional payment methods.
User-Controlled Autonomy
Every PayBox credential operates according to permissions chosen by the user:
- Always Ask, where every transaction requires passkey approval.
- Autonomous, where AI can act within limits chosen by the user.
Changing those permissions always requires a new passkey approval from the user. Access can be revoked at any time.
Grok can research, compare, plan, and prepare transactions. Money moves only according to the user’s rules.
Unlike systems that require users to hand custody of their funds to an agent, platform, or hosted wallet, PayBox is designed so no party, including MoonPay and the AI itself, can unilaterally access a user’s funds or credentials.
No terminal. No custody handoff. No proprietary marketplace. Just user-controlled access to the global economy from the AI interface people already use.
