Once completed, the integration of Chainlink CCIP will introduce new capabilities to the Stellar ecosystem, giving developers and institutions more secure and trusted tools to connect Stellar-based assets with the broader DeFi landscape.

Battle-tested security: CCIP’s consensus layer is powered by the same Chainlink Decentralized Oracle Network (DON) infrastructure that secures nearly $100+ billion in DeFi total volume locked (TVL) and has facilitated tens of trillions in onchain transaction volume. By leveraging this infrastructure, Stellar developers will gain access to a production-ready interoperability standard used by leading protocols and asset issuers.

Secure, token-agnostic transfers: CCIP enables secure cross-chain token transfers without modifying existing token contracts. Using cross-chain tokens (CCT), developers can deploy pre-audited token pool contracts to make any ERC-20-compatiable token transferable across chains or deploy their own custom token pool contract for bespoke use cases. Because CCTs are token-logic agnostic, no CCIP-specific code is required and built-in safeguards like configurable rate limits and Smart Execution help ensure reliable transaction execution even during network congestion.

Programmable token transfers: CCIP also supports cross-chain programmability that allows assets and data to move together. Developers can attach onchain data instructions that tell the receiving smart contract how to handle tokens when they arrive, condensing complex, multi-step processes into a single, atomic cross-chain instruction.

Extendable and future-proof: Built to evolve, CCIP’s architecture is extendable — enabling support for new blockchains, tokens, and the emerging security enhancements. This will ensure the Stellar ecosystem is able to interoperate with an expanding ecosystem of DeFi protocols.
