SoFi Tech Solutions, Orbi and Mastercard Partner to Launch Crypto-Linked Card in Mexico

October 8, 2026 By Business Wire

  • New card will let Orbi customers spend from their crypto balances wherever Mastercard is accepted, while merchants receive traditional currency through seamless conversion at the point-of-sale
  • Orbi to become the first cryptocurrency-focused client to issue cards through SoFi Tech Solutions’ Mastercard BIN sponsorship program in Mexico
  • Partnership lays the foundation for future stablecoin-powered remittances and payments using SoFiUSD across Mastercard's trusted network

MEXICO CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--#CryptoPayments--SoFi Tech Solutions, formerly Galileo, today announced a partnership with Mexican fintech Orbi and Mastercard to launch a crypto-linked card program in Mexico. The program will let Orbi customers use either traditional fiat currency or funds from their crypto balances through a seamless conversion at the time of purchase, while merchants receive traditional fiat currency.

Stablecoins accounted for 40% of crypto purchases among Bitso users in Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and Colombia in 2025, compared with 18% for bitcoin. This marked the first time stablecoins overtook bitcoin in Bitso’s regional purchase data.

SoFi Tech Solutions will provide the BIN sponsorship and financial technology infrastructure behind the Orbi card program, including issuing, transaction authorization, processing and compliance capabilities. Partnering with SoFi and its SoFiUSD stablecoin, provided a unique solution that brought all the components together. The platform will also support future stablecoin-powered use cases.

“Mexico is one of the world’s largest remittance markets, and stablecoins are becoming an increasingly important way to move money across its borders,” said Kathleen Pierce-Gilmore, President of SoFi Tech Solutions. “Together with Orbi and Mastercard, we are giving people in Mexico a trusted way to receive, hold and spend digital dollars, while laying the foundation for stablecoin-powered payments and cross-border money movement at scale.”

The partnership will let Orbi customers make purchases with physical and virtual cards linked to their crypto balances, with funds converted at the point of sale so merchants receive fiat currency. SoFi Tech Solutions’ connection to Mastercard’s domestic payment network in Mexico, Mexico Domestic Switch (MxDS), will support card purchases and cash withdrawals at ATMs.

“The Orbi Mastercard is the result of our collaboration with SoFi Tech Solutions and Mastercard, a partnership that has continued to deepen since our earliest days,” said Leonardo Perez, Co-founder of Orbi. “We are building an experience that turns digital dollars into real-world purchasing power, giving people in Mexico a familiar way to use their assets wherever Mastercard is accepted.”

“Digital assets are becoming an increasingly important part of how people hold and move money, and the opportunity is to make them as easy and trusted to use as traditional forms of payment,” adds Silvana Hernández, North Division President for Mastercard LATAM. “By working with SoFi Tech Solutions and Orbi, we’re enabling stablecoin settlement while helping connect digital assets to the payment experiences people already know, with the security and widespread acceptance of the Mastercard network.”

SoFi Tech Solutions’ connection to Mastercard’s domestic payment network in Mexico, Mexico Domestic Switch (MxDS), will support card purchases and cash withdrawals at ATMs.

Bringing SoFi’s U.S. financial technology experience to Latin America

SoFi Tech Solutions, formerly Galileo Financial Technologies, brings to Latin America the experience SoFi has gained building, operating and scaling digital financial services in the United States. Combined with Galileo’s more than 30 years of payments and processing expertise and Technisys’ modern core banking capabilities, this experience helps financial services providers across the region build connected, digital-first products designed for the evolving needs of their customers.

The platform provides access to:

  • Issuer processing and cards: Debit, credit and prepaid processing, including real-time controls, digital issuance, tokenization, push provisioning, cardholder services and rewards.
  • Payments and money movement: Access to ACH, wires, real-time payments, card-based money movement and emerging digital asset settlement.
  • Core banking: Modern core and ledger capabilities to configure and launch financial products while managing accounts and transactions in real time.
  • Digital banking: Composable capabilities for building and enhancing mobile and web financial experiences.
  • Lending: Technology supporting the credit lifecycle and the development and management of differentiated lending products.
  • Fraud and risk management: Integrated controls and real-time decisioning across accounts, cards and payments.

Clients can use these capabilities independently or combine them according to their needs, creating a path to modernize at their own pace and scale as their businesses – and customers – evolve.

Today, nearly 200 clients rely on SoFi Tech Solutions to power financial products and services. Its technology supports approximately 135 million accounts and has processed billions of transactions and supported money movement at trillion-dollar scale over the past three years.
