Urs Fischer’s CHAOS XI: From the Vault to open on MakersPlace on June 17th, 2024
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--MakersPlace, the premier marketplace for rare and authentic digital artworks, is excited to announce the release of five previously unseen artworks from Urs Fischer’s heralded CHAOS series, in an exhibition titled CHAOS XI - From the Vault. The exhibition includes works from Fischer’s personal collection that are being auctioned off in conjunction with CHAOS ENTROPY, a new chapter in Urs Fischer's revolutionary digital sculpture series in partnership with 1OF1. Developed in collaboration with Fischer, CHAOS ENTROPY will debut on June 18th, following Art Basel & the close of the exhibition on MakersPlace.
The unique works in this exhibition provide collectors with a rare opportunity to acquire original CHAOS artworks directly from Fischer’s personal archives, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing evolution of the CHAOS project.
CHAOS XI - From the Vault includes the following five works, all available in a no-reserve, 24-hour auction that opens on MakersPlace Monday, June 17th, at 6:30 pm EST.
Following the close of these five auctions, the next phase of the collection will open to the public. CHAOS ENTROPY introduces innovative capabilities, enabling collectors to create new artworks from existing CHAOS pieces. Collectors owning multiple CHAOS sculptures can merge a minimum of two artworks to generate a new CHAOS ENTROPY piece. Each submission through the CHAOS website results in a new, unique artwork that replaces the original pieces used in the process. As in Fischer’s celebrated CHAOS #501, these new works feature independently moving objects, reflecting the dynamic nature of the project. Sequentially numbered starting with #502, these works will be minted on the Ethereum blockchain. The merging process can be repeated with additional sculptures for further creative possibilities. CHAOS #1–#500, released by MakersPlace in April 2021, consists of 500 unique digital sculptures as individual NFTs. Each pair of objects in the series maintains a continuous connection, creating dynamic visual narratives. The collection sold out across 10 releases, generating over $2.5MM USD in sales. To commemorate the launch of CHAOS ENTROPY, Fischer will release these five exclusive pieces, adding a unique and personal touch to the celebration.
CHAOS #501, comprising all individual objects from CHAOS #1–#500, showcasing Fischer's exploration of independent movement within digital sculpture, was acquired by a major museum institution.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Urs Fischer is renowned for his innovative use of materials and scale distortions, creating works that challenge perceptions and representations. Fischer's oeuvre spans sculptures, paintings, photographs, and large-scale installations, often infused with a sense of humor and wit. His work is characterized by the juxtaposition of common objects and themes of absence and presence.
Born in 1973, Fischer studied photography at the Schule für Gestaltung in Zurich. His career has seen him work across various cities, including London, Los Angeles, Berlin, and New York.
