Crypto news in brief (December 17, 2018): South Korea, Coinbase and PayPal, Belgium, Tether

– Two South Korean ministries have launched a blockchain project for the container shipping industry
– Coinbase has announced that U.S. customers can now instantly withdraw balances to PayPal
– Belgium’s FSMA has updated its list of suspicious cryptocurrency-related websites that show signs of fraudulent activities
– Bloomberg has reviewed some bank statements of Tether Ltd.’s accounts

The South Korean Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning and Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries have launched a blockchain project for the container shipping industry.

Using blockchain tech, the two ministries are aiming to increase transparency between parties in the shipping process, allow real-time sharing of information and ultimately improve import and export business operations.

Coinbase has announced that U.S. customers can now instantly withdraw balances to PayPal without any fees.

Support for PayPal withdrawals in other countries will continue to be added across 2019.

Belgium’s Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA) has updated its list of suspicious cryptocurrency-related websites that show signs of fraudulent activities. This list now includes a total of 113 websites.

Bloomberg has reviewed some bank statements of Tether Ltd.’s accounts, and confirmed that the statements show convincing evidence about the existence of the necessary funds to back the USDT cryptocurrency, which is pegged at 1:1 with USD.
