Maple, the leading onchain asset manager, announced the launch of a first-of-its kind product that enables yield on collateral for perpetual futures trading on Drift, the foremost decentralized perpetual futures exchange on the Solana blockchain. Users can now earn between seven and eight percent APY when collateralizing Maple’s liquid yield dollar, syrupUSDC, creating novel ways to generate passive income or offset funding costs.
The new offering is poised to substantially enhance the market for perpetual futures, a form of trading that has grown exponentially in recent years. Until the syrupUSDC launch on Drift, traders lacked yield-bearing functionality on stablecoins used as margin collateral and, consequently, experienced opportunity costs in terms of capital efficiency.
As part of the launch, $100,000 of incentives have been deployed to accelerate syrupUSDC adoption on Drift. To spur sustainable growth, the supply cap initially has been set at $50 million.
“A key priority for Maple is to unlock more utility with crypto assets, especially when it comes to generating more efficient markets through innovative DeFi products and services,” said Sid Powell, CEO of Maple. “This is why we are so excited about our partnership with Drift, because the new yield function on syrupUSDC collateral generates otherwise unavailable possibilities for traders to do more with their capital. All at once, they can now trade, earn, and compound.”
The syrupUSDC launch deployment on Drift sets a new standard for composability, and is poised to attract fresh capital and enable more sophisticated trading strategies on Solana. Unlike most DEXs that are limited to USD or USDC collateral, Drift’s support for cross-collateral makes it possible to integrate syrupUSDC as a margin asset. This integration underscores the ongoing innovations across Solana, and particularly on Drift, which has been a pioneer in the realm of onchain capital markets.
“Integrating syrupUSDC into Drift’s trading ecosystem gives our users a new way to maximize their capital without sacrificing flexibility. By allowing collateral to earn yield while in use, traders can pursue more efficient DeFi strategies and improve their overall returns,” said X at Drift Protocol.
This announcement follows syrupUSDC’s expansion to the Solana ecosystem earlier this year, and deepens Maple’s involvement in one of the industry’s fastest-growing ecosystems. In the future, Maple is planning further syrupUSDC deployments, including as a yield–bearing collateral asset, to a broader range of protocols.
