The e-commerce giant could launch a number of Web3 products soon
Amazon plans to introduce its own NFT platform this spring, according to Blockworks with reference to its sources. The project is still at the development stage, but the company will allegedly reveal it in April.
The world’s largest retailer is looking into the direction of layer-1 blockchains, blockchain gaming startups and digital asset exchanges. The focus will be on blockchain games, where players get free digital tokens in return.
It is not yet clear as for the details of Amazon’s NFT initiative, in terms of personnel or other, but two sources said it will run on the Amazon platform, rather than its popular web-hosting platform, Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Andy Jassy, Amazon CEO, previously talked about the possibility of selling NFTs and being open to cryptocurrency in general. Launching an NFT marketplace among its numerous customers could make a splash and put it on a competing path of the likes of OpenSea and Rarible.
In early January AWS signed a partnership with Ava Labs, the company running the Avalanche blockchain. The partnership will bring scalable blockchain solutions to enterprises and governments.
