Blockdaemon Brings Cross-Chain Capabilities to Self-Custodial Wallet with LayerZero Labs Partnership

January 3, 2024 By Crypto Reporter PR

Blockdaemon, the global leader in institutional-grade blockchain infrastructure for node management and staking, announced a partnership with LayerZero Labs, the team that launched the leading omnichain interoperability messaging protocol, LayerZero. As part of this partnership, Blockdaemon will be integrating LayerZero into its self-custodial wallet. Additionally, Blockdaemon has become a LayerZero infrastructure provider and will be operating a Decentralized Verifier Network (DVN) on the LayerZero protocol. Both initiatives further Blockdaemon’s mission of providing institutions with improved access to decentralized finance (DeFi).

LayerZero will be among the first cross-chain protocols to be integrated into Blockdaemon’s leading MPC-based self-custodial wallet and DeFi API designed for institutions. This will give institutional investors access to a secure, reliable, and scalable blockchain interoperability infrastructure. Launched in April 2023, the wallet is based on a Threshold Security Module (TSM) called Builder Vault, which has been in full production since 2018 and is used by some of the world’s largest institutions such as OpenSea and Cybavo, a Circle Company, to secure digital assets.

In addition to integrating LayerZero into its wallet, Blockdaemon will also be contributing to validating and decentralizing the LayerZero protocol by developing and operating a DVN. Blockdaemon’s node-as-a-service platform is already utilized by LayerZero and a DVN is the next level of this partnership following the LayerZero V2 launch.

LayerZero provides developers with the optionality to configure their own Security Stack comprised of DVNs. These DVNs are off-chain networks of verifiers that come to a consensus and test the validity of messages being sent across the network, verifying message integrity. Blockdaemon Oracle launches alongside Polyhedra’s zkLightClient, the Google Cloud Oracle, and other custom DVNs run by teams including Nethermind, Gitcoin, and Animoca Brands. The Security Stack can be structured to allow omnichain applications (OApps) to use both a set of required and optional DVNs to verify a message. You can read more about DVNs here.

“LayerZero Labs aims to develop cross-chain infrastructure and interoperability technology that is built to last: always immutable, permissionless, and censorship-resistant,” commented Ryan Zarick, CTO and Co-Founder of LayerZero Labs. “Blockdaemon’s integration of the LayerZero protocol into their industry-leading MPC wallet and participation as a DVN within LayerZero demonstrates the enterprise-grade utility of the LayerZero protocol and expands the number of DVNs that developers can choose to leverage within their Security Stack.”

“At the heart of Blockdaemon’s mission is a commitment to provide an easy and secure way for institutions to leverage the power of blockchains and expand applications on the network,” stated Konstantin Richter, CEO and Founder of Blockdaemon. “The integration of both Blockdaemon’s Wallet with LayerZero and DVN (Blockdaemon Oracle) holds the promise of establishing a secure, compliant, and hyper-scalable entry point to liquidity pools while ensuring institutions retain complete control over their assets.”

The combination of these initiatives will allow other organizations to access a self-custodial wallet with battle-tested, patented MPC security that can be deployed on-premise and provide highly-coveted, seamless access to on-chain, cross-chain swaps, enabling users to take advantage of the opportunities presented by DeFi. Both LayerZero Labs and Blockdaemon are working closely to extend this partnership and include other tier-one organizations, contributing to the establishment of highly trusted entry points and rails for institutional customers.

LayerZero Labs
LayerZero Labs is the team that launched the leading omnichain interoperability protocol LayerZero. LayerZero’s advanced messaging infrastructure seamlessly connects over 50 blockchains and facilitates transparent and secure cross-chain messaging from one easy-to-use interface. Since going live in March 2022, the LayerZero protocol has processed more than 90 million messages with thousands of mainnet contracts being deployed by thousands of developer teams. Backed by leading venture capital firms including a16z, Sequoia, Lightspeed, Franklin Templeton, Christie’s, Uniswap Labs, and Samsung Next, LayerZero was recently valued at $3 billion. Developers building on LayerZero can create interoperable, omnichain dApps, which will lead to the establishment of a unified digital asset ecosystem.
