Major South Korean blockchain corporation ICONLOOP Inc. signs a strategic partnership with the ICON Foundation and 2bytes Corp. to establish ‘SPERA’, the blockchain-based interchain NFT game platform, and released a teaser site showcasing the new platform on January 25th.
The ‘SPERA’ platform, which is planned to be fully set up within the year, is an interchain NFT game platform that connects NFTs issued on various blockchain networks and platforms, making them interoperable. The name ‘SPERA’ comes from the Latin word ‘to hope’ and is also a portmanteau of ‘Space Opera’.
Currently, the vast majority of NFTs issued and distributed on various existing blockchain platforms do not have much use beyond ownership. Likewise, NFTs found in play-to-earn titles are currently limited in that they can only be used within the same game and platform.
The new platform will use the interchain BTP (Blockchain Transmission Protocol) technology to connect various NFTs from different blockchain ecosystems and make them operable by allowing them to be used within games on the SPERA platform, and plans to support P2E (Play-to-Earn) features as well.
BTP is a trademark technology developed by the global interchain ICON project which connects various blockchains to make them interoperable. BTP technology differs from typically centralized cross-chain technologies in that its architecture is decentralized, providing high security and versatility.
Within the newly announced partnership, ICONLOOP will develop and support the establishment of the platform based on its technological expertise in previously developing and releasing various blockchain technologies. The ICON Foundation will support the establishment of an interoperable blockchain ecosystem by utilizing its BTP technology. Meanwhile, game services startup 2bytes will set up the blockchain service and run the business side of the new platform. 2bytes currently provides localization, QA, and global consulting services to more than 40 game developers and has recently set up its own game development studio.
More details on the interchain NFT game platform SPERA can be found on the teaser site (https://spera.world) that goes live today.
About ICONLOOP Inc.
Founded in May of 2016, ICONLOOP Inc. is a major blockchain company that leads South Korea in innovating blockchain platforms and services. Based on independently developed blockchain technologies, ICONLOOP provides technological services to various public institutions, corporations and to the global interchain project ‘ICON’. It also works to popularize the use of blockchain technologies by providing various blockchain-based services such as DID (Decentralized Identifier) certification service ‘ZZEUNG’ based on certification platform ‘MyID’, visitor management service ‘VisitMe’, and ‘Jeju Safety Code’ the electronic visitor registry for the province of Jeju, South Korea.
ICON is the global interchain project launched by the ICON Foundation in 2017 and is a smart contract and blockchain-compatible layer1 blockchain with ICX being the ICON network’s virtual asset. ICON BTP (Blockchain Transmission Protocol) differs from many existing bridging solutions in that it is an inter-blockchain communication protocol allowing for data and NFT assets to be shared between blockchains. It is compatible without limitation on a blockchain’s consensus algorithm, running instead smart contracts, not relying on node validators to verify transactions between blockchains. Some blockchains that are to be connected to ICON via its BTP technology are Binance Smart Chain (BSC), Polkadot, NEAR Protocol, Harmony, and also feature Balanced, DAO, Omm Finance, Optimus Protocol, the Equality Exchange, and DeFi projects.
