– Ripple has partnered with Kyoto University and the University of Tokyo
– Fortaleza will start accepting bitcoin as payment for bus tickets
– Bitcoin mining is likely responsible for 0.03-0.06% of global energy-related CO2 emissions
– Fiat currency is used 800 times more often in money laundering schemes than bitcoin

Ripple has partnered with Kyoto University and the University of Tokyo as part of its University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI).

Fortaleza, a major city of northeast Brazil with a population of about 2.7 million, will start accepting bitcoin as payment for bus tickets by the end of 2019.

According to the report by the International Energy Agency, bitcoin mining is likely responsible for 0.03-0.06% of global energy-related CO2 emissions.

Fiat currency is used 800 times more often in money laundering schemes than bitcoin, according to analysts from Messari, a company that brings transparency to the crypto-economy.

The analysis is based on data of blockchain startup Chainalysis and UN Office on Drugs and Crime.
