AI, Red Teaming, H2O Safety, and China Risk Among Hot Cyber Topics at Billington State and Local CyberSecurity Summit

February 20, 2025 By Business Wire

Cyber Leaders from 36 U.S. States and Localities Speak at Mar 10-12 D.C. Event

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--#5G--The 2nd Billington State and Local CyberSecurity Summit has an agenda packed with key topics affecting the cyber safety of state and local governments—including AI, red teaming, water safety, threats from China and other nation-states, legacy systems, ransomware and the cyber workforce. Taking place March 10-12, 2025, in Washington, D.C., speakers from more than 36 states, cities, counties along with federal government officials and industry experts will share best practices, enhance current cyber operations, and bolster security.

“Key cyber issues that worry national leaders also concern leaders from all other levels of government. Our state and local summit focuses on cyber topics that are very much in the news, tailored to their specific needs. Keeping our country safe from cyber criminals also requires keeping critical infrastructure safe at the regional level too,” explained Troy Schneider, EVP and GM, Billington CyberSecurity. “Our summit helps localities protect themselves by sharing data, learning and building relationships.”

The summit convenes nearly 1,000 government officials, tech leaders, and academia to find ways to enhance the cybersecurity of the municipalities that comprise the U.S. and the critical infrastructure sectors. Among the agenda topics are:

  • Protecting the diverse digital ecosystem of Florida, the nation’s 4th largest economy.
  • Addressing ransomware in cloud environments.
  • Looking ahead as adversaries seek to exploit and leverage AI technologies.
  • Examining priorities of state digital and cybersecurity leaders.
  • Evaluating impacts on state and local cyber programs as the energy grid becomes more diversified, decentralized, and data centric.
  • Learning lessons on ways in which AI/ML is being applied to enhance cybersecurity.
  • Planning for the ramifications for regional and local cyber entities should China invade Taiwan.

More than 36 cyber leaders will be speaking during 25 sessions, including:

  • Amanda Crawford, Executive Director and CIO, State of Texas
  • Vitaliy Panych, CISO, State of California
  • Jeremy Rodgers, CISO, State of Florida
  • Tony Sauerhoff, CISO, State of Texas
  • Bruce Coffing, CISO, City of Chicago, Illinois
  • Dr. Brian Gardner, Interim CIO, City of Dallas, Texas
  • Michael Geraghty, CISO and Director, State of New Jersey
  • Colin Ahern, Chief Cyber Officer, State of New York
  • Katie Savage, Secretary, Department of IT, State of Maryland
  • Michael Watson, CISO, Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Michael Gregg, CISO, State of North Dakota

Additionally, Billington CyberSecurity is partnering with StateRAMP to host the 2025 StateRAMP Symposium on Cybersecurity Framework Harmonization on March 10, on site and immediately prior to the Summit. Government and industry leaders are encouraged to register and attend all three days.

The summit takes place at the Ronald Reagan Building at 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC. All sessions are open to credentialed working press except the workshops that follow Chatham House Rules. These are indicated on the agenda. Press and attendees should register for both the Summit and Symposium at: https://statelocal.billingtoncybersummit.com/register. Registration is free for credentialed media.

Attendees can receive continuing education credits for sessions attended. The summit is presented by more than three dozen sponsors, led by: Armis, AWS, Carahsoft Technology Corp. and NightDragon.
